Yes, single post container is responsive. This means, it adopts to the post contents and you do not need to leave empty space after single post container. It will automatically stretch if post will be longer. Just move footer or next widget you use right after single post container.
Thank you! I checked your site. So in order to fix it you should try this:
1. Open the editor home page of your site
2. Press Preview
3. Open the short blog post, 1 min read long
4. Close the preview by pressing Back to editor
5. Try to change position of the footer by double clicking on the Adjust Page Height button. This should remove the space between blog post and footer.
