Since there is only one blog for a site and the blog can only be added to one page, features of the Custom Feed are very important. One that would be very helpful is to have a category menu for the custom feed, like that on the main blog. If the feed includes more than one category, then the menu would function like on the main blog--it would list the categories included in the feed AND provide the search function for those blog categories.
Alternatively, enable placement of the full blog component on more than one page and enable customization of the categories that are included in the menu.
This functionality would enable a site to tailor pages and blog content for subsets of their visitors according to the categories they are primarily interested in. (This is related to the request for subcategories--but enabling grouping of categories onto separate blog pages would mostly eliminate the need for subcategories because categories effectively become subcategories of the group. ) This alternative also would need the search function to restrict its scope to the categories selected for the particular instance of the blog.
As a general comment, I am unclear about wishlist items and when they may be possible through Corvid code. If functionality not yet standard in Wix can be accomplished with Corvid code, it would be very helpful to have that pointed out so site owners can pursue that alternative.
Thanks!
Maya,
Thank you for this and all your previous responses. I think I understand how the category (full) URL can be used to link to a specific menu category in the main blog module. And I have viewed the page in the main module. However, I can't use the URL (e.g., https://dougsacarto.wixsite.com/dems/economy-jobs-social-justice ) because the site is not published and cannot be found through an external URL.
I would also like to embed that listing posts in a separate page (with other content on the page), but I'm not seeing a way to do that, except through the Custom Feed, which has the limitations that I've already discussed. That's why I would like to see the custom feed have the same functionality as the main blog module: menu that lists the included categories (if more than one), pagination (at minimum a setting for number of posts to display at a time with forward and back navigation buttons ("<" ">") , search function within the categories included in the feed.
Thanks,
Doug
Maya,
As I note in previous response, I just learned about category URL, but cannot test it because relative URLs are not accepted and I'm in pre-published mode. Does the category page also have pagination so there is not the endless page scroll? After reading a post from the category page and closing it, where is the visitor left--still at the category page? Unable to test the category page, I still have questions like these.
The problem with jumping from the Custom Feed when reading a specific post is that the visitor is taken away from the page. It's confusing and a navigation problem. They can't easily read numerous posts that way. And of course the custom feeds can combine categories for special purposes, which is not the case with category URL.
I still recommend having the option to have posts display in a popup window when reading posts from a custom feed or recent posts feed. Alternatively, the system should keep track of which page and where the visitor accessed the post (in the main blog, category URL page, recent posts feed on page, custom feed on page) and return them to thet point when the post display they are reading is closed.
Thanks!
Hi,
Thanks for contacting us.
Can you please share with me why you don't want to use the built in category pages of the blog? it will help us to shape the product in a better way.
Regarding Corvid - currently we provide the posts data and the post page api, but we are working on more integrations (e.g. we are missing the categories data). We will share the updates here and will have examples showing what can be achieved with Corvid :) stay tuned!
