I am new to Wix and as I work with the blog, its architecture --with main blog module, custom feeds and recent posts--presents serious navigation issues for users. If I'm on a page for a topic/category that has a custom feed for that category, I will suddenly be somewhere else on the site as soon as I select a post to read. Where am I? How do I get back?
One possible help for this problem: Enable posts to be displayed in pop-up window when selected in a Custom Feed. This would keep the visitor on the page with the collection they are interested in. Alternatively, I could abandon the Custom Feed if (as per a previous question I posted) I could hyperlink to the main blog module with a URL parameter that would make active a specific category in the blog menu. That way I can direct visitors from a topic page to the main blog module and they will see the corresponding category of posts displayed.
The more complete remedy for a number of issues may be the second option I raised in a previous post here: Enable having multiple instances of the main blog module on the site with the ability to select separately for each instance of the module the categories displayed in that module. Retaining current functionality for each instance, readers would remain in that module as they read the included posts, plus all the other benefits of the main module: menu (if more than one category included), search, pagination, number of posts loaded at a time.
Thanks.
Maya,
Thank you for responding to my comments/questions. Earlier today I saw a post about category URL in the Wishlist forum and posted a follow up question there. I tried to use the relative URL (/categories/my-blog-category) for a button, but that was flagged as an invalid URL. I'm in pre-published draft mode now and don't have the ability to test entering a full URL to see if that is how I can link to the category. Is that how the category URL has to be used? (As I noted there, it would be nice to be able to use relative URL for my situation and also to streamline loading internal URLs.)
I would use the Custom Feed for recent posts along with an ALL POSTS button using the category URL.
Thanks again.
Hi,
Thanks for contacting us.
Could you please elaborate regarding this paragraph?

You don't have to use custom feeds in order to have category pages. There are built in categories pages in the blog module. You can use them using the navigation menu or their direct urls, and then your readers will be able to navigate back to the main feed or to any other category of the blog.
