We are all on pins and needles waiting for this update. How hard is it to flip the switch to change this silly feature? I’ve had to explain more times than I care to count why my comment system requires a login. It’s just plain weird. I know you can’t give dates as a matter of policy, but we really need this done ASAP. Please. I love the blog platform and have been able to customize it well for my site, but these comments are great for engagement and even SEO as my commenters will use keywords in their comments just based on what I blog about. Let’s get this done STAT
XOXO,
A loyal Wix user of over 5 years +
Hi,
we hear the voice of the users and thanks again for re-raising the question. We are going to roll-out the flexibilities and improvements in the comments system in iterations, first flexibilities (option to turn off Wix comments and use third-parties commenting tools) will be available very soon.
Thank you so much Simona. I know you guys listen and hear us. And always striving to improve. That’s why I’ve remained a loyal user and fierce defender of Wix for so long. But I thought we were already able to turn off commenting and add apps. I tried maybe 4 commenting apps and removed them all because they looked so cluttered. All of them. And again, they showed up on the main feed as well. I think you guys should improve upon your commenting system as the guest phase. Much cleaner and all our comments in one place. What do you use now as the commenting system for the Wix company blog Site? I like what you guys have
**first phase. not guest phase
@Veronica Hi Veronica, thank you for a thumbs up. Soon we'll launch the post page customisation which will allow to toggle-off elements like Wix comment system and use third-parties services. In the next iteration Wix comments system will be improved allowing to comment without the sign-up. As for the Wix company blog - we are using custom solution but are in the process of transitioning to Wix blog.
Hi there. Thank you @Veronica for bringing up this question. This is almost the only problem I have with the new Wix blog. I really like everything else and have also been using Wix for a long time. I really do not see the point of having user log in on a blog unless everyone stopping by your blog become loyal readers. There are many readers who will be discouraged to comment if they have to log in first. Most other blog posts are easy to comment and having an active comment section is super important.
Changing this feature so that anyone can comment at anytime without having to log in would benefit many users I think :-)
Thank you @Katrine Windfeld Jakobsen for sharing your needs. Possibility to comments without sign-up It is included in our features Wishlist and we are working on addressing that.
I just want to add my opinion too. I prefer the easy designing features of Wix over WordPress and I was just about to purchase an upgraded membership and connect my domain, but I noticed the comments forced users to log in. That feature alone is the reason I will not pay for an upgrade and may switch back to WordPress. As somebody else mentioned, comments are a huge seo tool, and engagement is crucial for a successful blog. I can't comprehend why Wix does not integrate the ability for guest commenting.
In fact, comments are not good for seo! If the search engine reads the comments, it coult easily end up in worser rankings, because it dilutes your content. It whould be great, to set comments to "no follow".
@Christoph Heers Hmmm I guess that's a matter of opinion. I can see how obviously spammy or unrelated comments could be hindering... but I think relevant comments are good because they contain keywords and other phrases to add to the content already in my site.
@KristinCali Of course, but seo isnt all about spam keywords. There is offtopic, spam-links, wrong grammar etc, all of this can be negativ in comments. Nowadays there is bit more to do for a clean seo-structure, specially wdf*idf is something you need to have your eyes on. The time you "spam" the keyword in the alt-tags for pictures, in the headlines and content are gone. Comments are a great tool for your dna as a blogger and helps to let the crowd return for more clicks etc., but for seo? Not worthy a discussion in my opinion!
