Hi, I’m Tsunami Hee Ja, and I’m an artist.

I was born in South Korea, raised in rural New South Wales, and currently reside on the coast of Adelaide with my magnificent husband, brilliant children, crazy dog, several decent cats, and one barely tolerable rabbit.

I studied Visual Communications at the University of South Australia, graduating way back in 2004. Already interested in manga and anime, I incorporated elements of this aesthetic into my own illustration work and soon became known for it.

Over the course of my freelancing career I’ve had the opportunity to take on numerous interesting jobs creating art for all kinds of people. I’ve also shown my work in multiple solo and collective exhibitions.

These days I’m a bit of a recluse, but I feel most creative when working alone, so that suits me.

I’ve never officially been diagnosed, but I suspect I have some kind of high functioning anxiety. This translates to me being really confident when I get up in front of a large group of people to host a workshop, but weirdly intimidated when I pop to the local store for a loaf of bread.

I’m happiest at home amongst my pets and house plants, and prefer to be as absent from social media as I can be without disappearing completely. As an artist I realise this inclination is greatly to my detriment, and probably a little bit silly, so I'm working on it.

Check out my website for examples of my work and to read my blog. I've started a web comic as well as some regular journal updates:

Thank you for taking the time to know more about me, and I hope you enjoy my stuff (or at least don't hate it).

Cheers!

Tsunami Hee Ja
