The power of music is a beautiful thing and my intention is to use this to tap into the mindset of challenging young people. There are far too many young people left hanging around on the streets becoming increasingly involved in crime. This easily could have been me and if it wasn't for me starting up DJing, I dread to think where my life could have potentially ended up. Spending hours and hours as a teenager teaching myself how to DJ; beat matching, scratching, beat juggling, exploring different genres and styles, I was able to craft a skill in DJing and go onto make a career out of it whilst studying at university...earning good money too.
Young people today have so many temptations surrounding them, with a lot of them being linked to crime, which can ultimately lead them on a road in life which is a dead end. Music is a universal language that comes in so many styles and when you open your mind and explore whats out there, you never know where it can lead you to. Some of the most successful artists in the world (DRE, EMINEM, 50 CENT) have made that choice to use music as a platform to be the best they can be. You have to bear in mind they once found themselves in an environment where gangs were at war with one another and lives were lost for nothing more than a bit of street cred, or bitter rivalry. Just because you can find yourself being surrounded in a negative environment, does not mean you have to become a part of it.
By taking ownership and involving yourself in something that is positive and meaningful can be the difference between life and death. DJing is a great example to get involved with if you want change to happen in your life. By embracing music and exploring different styles and genres broadens your mindset and can lead onto many great things for the future ahead.
